Zetia tablets 10 mg for reducing cholesterol level (Ezetimibe)
What are Zetia tablets 10 mg for reducing cholesterol (ezetimibe)?
Zetia tablets contain ezetimibe, which is a cholesterol absorption inhibitor and a vegetal sterol inhibitor. This medication targets NPC1L1 proteins, the cholesterol transport proteins found in the epithelial cells of the gastrointestinal tract and the liver. Zetia tablets function by blocking the absorption of cholesterol from the small intestine, thus reducing the available cholesterol for liver cells. This action stimulates liver cells to increase their absorption of cholesterol from the bloodstream, consequently lowering cholesterol levels.
Zetia tablets are available as a standalone treatment and can also be used in combination with statins to prevent the progression of atherosclerosis and reduce the risk of cardiovascular events. Clinical studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of ezetimibe in patients who are unable to attain their target cholesterol levels with statin therapy or who experience partial or complete intolerance to statins. Another notable attribute of Zetia tablets is their safety and efficacy in patients with familial hypercholesterolemia, sitosterolemia, and insulin resistance.
