What are Zacras tablets for hypertension?

Zacras tablets, prescribed for the management of hypertension, comprise a dual active pharmaceutical ingredient formulation consisting of amlodipine and azilsartan. These two active principles function synergistically to regulate blood pressure through distinct mechanisms of action.

Amlodipine, a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker, operates by selectively inhibiting L-type calcium channels primarily found in vascular smooth muscle cells. By doing so, amlodipine reduces the influx of calcium ions into these cells, leading to decreased intracellular calcium levels. This, in turn, results in vasodilation, primarily affecting peripheral blood vessels. Vasodilation leads to a decrease in vascular resistance, which in the context of hypertension, equates to a lowered systemic vascular resistance. Consequently, amlodipine effectively reduces systolic and diastolic blood pressure by promoting relaxation of the arterial walls and enhancing blood flow.

Azilsartan, on the other hand, belongs to the angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) class of medications. Angiotensin II is a potent vasoconstrictor hormone that plays a pivotal role in blood pressure regulation by causing constriction of blood vessels and promoting salt and water retention. How to take

Adults should take 1 tablet at a time, once a day. 

Contraindications: do not use for the following patients:

• patients with liver or renal disorders,
• patients with cerebrovascular disease or hyperkalemia,
• patients receiving hemodialysis,
• patients under low-salt diet treatment,
• preoperative patients,
• children,
• pregnant, possibly pregnant, or breastfeeding women
