Saikokeishito is a traditional Japanese Kampo herbal medicine that has been used for centuries to treat patients suffering from cold, influenza or abdominal pain. Saikokeishito by famous Japanese Kampo maker Tsumura uses only dried herbal extract made from plants that have been grown in Japan under strict supervision to ensure the safety and the quality of the product.
Recent clinical studies confirmed the effects of this medicine on gut ischemia and reperfusion induced liver injury. The extract increases serum AST (GOT), liver triglyceride, the liver DNA content, and glutathione levels in liver. Saikokeishito suppresses pancreatitis, provides deletion of active oxygen and promotes immunological actions in human peripheral blood monocytes. As the result, the extract is effective for the treatment of fever, diaphoresis, rigors, physical pain, headache, and nausea in patients with febrile diseases, such as common cold, influenza, pneumonia, and pulmonary tuberculosis.
