Selara Tablets 50mg X 100 tablets (hypertension, heart failure)
What are Selara Tablets 50 mg for hypertension?
Selara tablets are a medication whose active ingredient is eplerenone. Eplerenone is a selective aldosterone receptor antagonist, commonly referred to as a mineralocorticoid receptor antagonist (MRA). It exerts its effects by binding to the mineralocorticoid receptors in the body, specifically the aldosterone receptors, which are found in various tissues, including the heart, blood vessels, and kidneys.
The primary mechanism of action of Selara tablets involves blocking the binding of aldosterone to its receptors. Aldosterone is a hormone produced by the adrenal glands that plays a key role in regulating sodium and potassium levels in the body, as well as maintaining fluid balance. By inhibiting the effects of aldosterone, eplerenone reduces the retention of sodium and water, while promoting the excretion of potassium.
This mechanism leads to several physiological effects. Selara tablets are used primarily in the management of conditions such as hypertension and heart failure. By reducing sodium and water retention, the medication helps to decrease fluid buildup in the body, leading to a decrease in blood pressure and a potential improvement in symptoms of heart failure.
