What are RUPAFIN Tablets 10 mg for allergy, eczema and dermatitis (rupatadine)? 

RUPAFIN tablets contain the active principle rupatadine, a second-generation antihistamine that is used in the management of allergic rhinitis, hives (urticaria), and pruritus associated with skin diseases such as eczema and dermatitis. Rupatadine exerts its therapeutic effects primarily through its antagonism of histamine H1 receptors.

The mechanism of action of rupatadine involves binding to and blocking H1 receptors on various target tissues, including blood vessels, smooth muscle cells, and sensory nerve endings. This antagonistic action inhibits the effects of histamine, a neurotransmitter released in response to allergen exposure, and reduces the symptoms associated with allergic reactions. By suppressing histamine-mediated responses, rupatadine helps alleviate common symptoms of allergic rhinitis, such as sneezing, itching, runny nose, and nasal congestion.

In the case of hives (urticaria) and itch associated with skin diseases, rupatadine's anti-histaminic properties play a crucial role in alleviating pruritus. It counteracts the histamine-induced vasodilation and increased vascular permeability that contribute to the characteristic wheals and itching seen in urticaria. Additionally, its anti-inflammatory actions may further aid in reducing the intensity and duration of symptoms associated with skin diseases like eczema and dermatitis.

How to take

Adults and children of 12 years and older should take 1 tablet (10 mg of rupatadine) at a time, once a day. Your doctor may increase the dosage up to 2 tablets (20 mg) at a time according to your symptoms. 

Contraindications: do not use for pregnant or breastfeeding women. 

Important information

For treatment of pollinosis, patient needs to take the medicine every day until the pollen season ends.

As this medicine may cause sleepiness, patient should avoid operating dangerous machinery, driving a car or working at heights.

Avoid taking grapefruit juice or alcohol while taking this medicine. 

If an allergic reaction occurs, patient needs to stop using the medicine and consult with their doctor. If patient is taking any other medication or treatment, they should consult with their doctor in advance.
