Rosuzet combination tablets for hypercholesterolemia and familial hypercholesterolemia (rosuvastatin calcium, ezetimibe, Ezalo, Roszet)
What are Rosuzet combination tablets for hypercholesterolemia and familial hypercholesterolemia (rosuvastatin calcium, ezetimibe, Ezalo, Roszet)?
Rosuzet combination tablets are formulated with two active ingredients: rosuvastatin calcium, a synthetic medicine belonging to the statin class, and ezetimibe, a cholesterol absorption and vegetal sterol inhibitor. These components provide a multifaceted approach in managing cholesterol levels, offering a more comprehensive solution to individuals suffering from hypercholesterolemia and familial hypercholesterolemia.
The mechanism of action of Rosuzet tablets is two-fold, addressing both the production and absorption of cholesterol in the body. Firstly, rosuvastatin calcium acts as an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor, playing a crucial role in the liver. It inhibits the activity of this enzyme, which is responsible for cholesterol synthesis in the liver cells. By doing so, the production of cholesterol is significantly reduced, leading to lower overall cholesterol levels in the bloodstream.
Secondly, ezetimibe, the other component of Rosuzet, demonstrates its effectiveness in blocking the absorption of cholesterol from the small intestine. Within the gut, cholesterol is absorbed from the food we consume, contributing to its presence in the bloodstream. Ezetimibe selectively targets and inhibits the cholesterol transporter in the small intestine, limiting the amount of cholesterol that enters the circulation from dietary sources. This further aids in reducing the overall cholesterol levels in the body.
The synergistic effects of both active ingredients extend beyond their individual actions. Notably, Rosuzet tablets stimulate the liver cells to increase their uptake of cholesterol from the bloodstream. As the cholesterol synthesis in the liver is suppressed by rosuvastatin calcium, and the absorption of cholesterol from the intestine is inhibited by ezetimibe, there is an increased need for cholesterol clearance from the blood circulation. Consequently, the liver cells are stimulated to absorb more cholesterol from the bloodstream, further contributing to the lowering of cholesterol levels.
Clinical studies have substantiated the efficacy of Rosuzet tablets in managing hypercholesterolemia and familial hypercholesterolemia. One significant finding from these studies was that the addition of ezetimibe to statin therapy resulted in remarkable improvements for patients who had not achieved the desired reduction in LDL cholesterol levels with statin monotherapy. Approximately 71.5% of patients who previously struggled to reach their target cholesterol levels with statin treatment alone experienced the desired reduction after incorporating ezetimibe into their medication regimen.
