Opalmon tablets 5 mcg for numbness and pain in limbs (lumbar spinal stenosis, thromboangiitis obliterans, limaprost alfadex)
What are Opalmon tablets 5 mcg for numbness and pain in limbs (lumbar spinal stenosis, thromboangiitis obliterans, limaprost alfadex)?
An active principle of Opalmon tablets is limaprost alfadex, an oral prostaglandin E1 analog. It affects vascular smooth muscle cells, causing constriction or dilation, platelets causing aggregation or disaggregation and spinal neurons causing pain. Limaprost alfadex improves peripheral circulatory failure, provides a vasodilator action and an antithrombotic effect, improves poor blood flow in the nerve tissue in cervical spondylosis and normalizes nerve function. Opalmon tablets are effective for relieving such symptoms as numbness, pain or coldness in limbs (both legs and arms). Also, this medicine helps to improve the walking ability.
Opalmon tablets are prescribed for patients with thromboangiitis obliterans, acquired lumbar spinal canal stenosis (in patients with bilateral intermittent claudication showing normal SLR test result). In Japan, this medicine is also used for the treatment of lumbar spinal stenosis patients with concurrent osteoporosis (especially elderly patients) and patients with cervical spondylotic radiculopathy.
