What are Nexium capsules 20 mg for ulcers (esomeprazole magnesium hydrohydrate)?
An active principle of Nexium capsules is esomeprazole magnesium hydrohydrate, a magnesium salt of esomeprazole, the S-isomer of omeprazole. It works as gastric proton pump inhibitor, affecting proton pump, which is a last step in gastric acid secretion, and, by this, reducing the secretion of the acid.
Nexium tablets are effective for the treatment of gastric, duodenal and anastomotic ulcers, reflux esophagitis, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and for suppression of recurrence of gastric or duodenal ulcer associated with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug or low-dose aspirin medication. As this medicine enhances antimicrobial actions of antibacterial agents, it is also used for supporting the eradication of Helicobacter pylori in the stomach in gastric or duodenal ulcer together with antibiotics.
