An active principle of Methylene Blue intravenous injections is methylthionium chloride hydrate, a thiazine dye specifically used in medicine. When getting into human body, it changes to leucomethyleneblue in the red blood cells. By this, Methylene blue intravenous injections reduce hemoglobin to methemoglobin and improve methemoglobinemia rapidly.
Methylene Blue intravenous injections are used for the treatment of patients with toxic methemoglobinemia. Specialists recommend to use this medicine for patients with toxic methemoglobinemia whose methemoglobin levels exceed 30% in an asymptomatic cases, and 20% in a symptomatic cases.

How to use
This medicine should be injected intravenously.
If symptoms do not improve within 1 hour after injection, injection should be repeated as needed.
Contraindications: Do not use for the following patients:
- pregnant or breastfeeding women,
- patients with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency,
- patients with NADPH reductase deficiency,
- patients with methemoglobinemia with chlorate,
- patients with methemoglobinemia due to nitrite used as antidote for cyanide poisoning,
- patients with renal dysfunction,
- patients with methemoglobinemia with aniline or diaphenylsulfone.
Important information
Measurement of blood oxygen saturation by pulse oximeter may show an apparently low value due to the use of this medicine.
If an allergic reaction occurs, patient needs to stop using the medicine and consult with their doctor. If patient is taking any other medication or treatment, they should consult with their doctor in advance.
