What are Methotrexate tablets 2 mg for arthritis and psoriasis (amethopterin)?
Methotrexate, also known as known as amethopterin suppresses actions of lymphocytes in the immune system. It inhibits abnormal immune reaction and improves articular symptoms such as swelling and pain.
Methotrexate tablets are effective for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, plaque psoriasis with inadequate response to local therapy, psoriatic arthritis, pustular psoriasis, erythrodermic psoriasis and juvenile idiopathic arthritis with joint symptoms.

Indications:
- rheumatoid arthritis,
- plaque psoriasis with inadequate response to local therapy,
- psoriatic arthritis,
- pustular psoriasis,
- erythrodermic psoriasis,
- juvenile idiopathic arthritis with joint symptoms.
How to take
For rheumatoid arthritis, plaque psoriasis with inadequate response to local therapy, psoriatic arthritis, pustular psoriasis, erythrodermic psoriasis: take this medicine as a unit of one week (7 days). Weekly total dosage is 3 tablets (6 mg of the active ingredient), taken at once or in 2 to 3 divided doses. When dividing the dosage, take the dosage every 12 hours from day 1 to day 2. The remaining 6 days (when the dosage is taken at once or divided in two doses) or 5 days (when the dosage is divided in three doses) will be a non-medication day. This course is repeated every week. Your doctor may adjust the dosage according to the age, symptoms, tolerance and response to this medicine. However, the weekly dosage is up to 8 tablets (16 mg) .
For juvenile idiopathic arthritis with arthral symptom: take this medicine as a unit of one week (7 days). Weekly total dosage is 4 to 10 mg of the active ingredient per square meter(/m2) , taken at once or in 2 to 3 divided doses. When dividing the dosage, take the dosage every 12 hours from day 1 to day 2. The remaining 6 days (when the dosage is taken at once or divided in two doses) or 5 days (when the dosage is divided in three doses) will be a non-medication day. Your doctor may adjust the dosage according to the age, symptoms, tolerance and response to this medicine.
Please note that this preparation contains 2 mg of the active ingredient in a tablet.
Contraindications: do not use for the following patients:
- patients with myelosuppression,
- patients with chronic liver or renal disorders,
- patients with pleural effusion,
- patients with ascites,
- people with tuberculosis, affected by tuberculosis or in close contact with tuberculosis patients,
- pregnant, possibly pregnant or breastfeeding women.
Important information
If an allergic reaction occurs, patient needs to stop using the medicine and consult with their doctor. If patient is taking any other medication or treatment, they should consult with their doctor in advance.
