What are Fareston 40 mg tablets for breast cancer?
The active principle of Fareston tablets is toremifene citrate, a selective estrogen receptor modulator. It reduces estrogen activity in breast cancer cells, prevents estrogen signals from reaching breast cancer cells and inhibits cancer cell growth. Fareston tablets also significantly reduce breast pain and can be used to lessen the need for pain-killers.
Fareston tablets can be used to treat breast cancer in the early and advanced stages. This medication is particularly effective for women in postmenopausal period with estrogen receptor-positive and unknown-status breast cancers. It is safe, effective, well-tolerated, and less likely than other medications to cause uterine neoplasms or serious vascular events.
Also, Fareston tablets can also be used to reduce the risk of fractures in prostate cancer patients and improve sperm parameters for men suffering from idiopathic Oligozoospermia.

How to take
Take 1 tablet a day. However, if the patient has had radiation treatment or drug treatment, take 3 tablets at a time, once daily.
Contraindications: do not use for the following patients:
- Patients with myelosuppression
- Patients with hypokalemia
- Patients with arrhythmia, such as bradycardia, or cardiac disease that is susceptible to developing arrhythmia like myocardial infarction,
- Patients with a history of QT prolongation by electrocardiogram.
- Patients taking antiarrhythmic agents (quinidine or procainamide; amiodarone; sotalol; etc. ),
- Breastfeeding or pregnant women.
Important information
Fareston tablets can reduce estrogen's effectiveness. Be sure to use other birth control method than hormone preparation.
