What are Effexor SR capsules 37.5 mg for depression and depressed state (venlafaxine, antidepressant)?

The active principle of Effexor SR capsules is venlafaxine, a serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor. By selectively inhibiting the reuptake of neurotransmitters (in the brain it helps to increase the level of neurotransmitters at the synaptic cleft. Effexor capsules effectively treat such symptoms as:

• low energy level,
• depressed mood,
• anxiety,
• low interest in a daily activities,
• panic attacks. 

Sustainable release form allows this medicine to maintain a stable level throughout the day.

How to take

Adults should start with 1 capsule (37.5 mg of venlafaxine) at a time, once a day, after meal, for one week. Then increase the dosage to 2 capsules at a time after meal, once a day. Your doctor may adjust the dosage up to 6 capsules per day according to your age and symptoms. The dosage should be increased gradually, with a step of adding 2 capsules at a day, with an interval of at least one week between each step. 

This medicine is a sustained release (SR) preparation. Do not crush or grind the capsule contents and take it without chewing.

Contraindications: do not use for pregnant or breastfeeding women. Do not use for patients on dialysis, patients with renal or liver dysfunction. 

Important information

If the patient or their family notice some unusual behavioral symptoms, such as suicidal thoughts or desire to harm others, they should immediately consult with the doctor in charge. 

Avoid taking alcohol and any food or supplement containing St. John's worth while taking these tablets.

Avoid driving a car, operating dangerous machinery or working at heights while taking these tablets. Sleepiness and dizziness are possible. 

If an allergic reaction occurs, patient needs to stop using the medicine and consult with their doctor. If patient is taking any other medication or treatment, they should consult with their doctor in advance.
