What are Decadron tablets 0.5 mg (dexamethasone, corticosteroid)?

Decadron tablets contain dexamethasone, a well-known corticosteroid. It reduces the inflammatory response of the body and helps to relieve symptoms in many inflammatory and autoimmune diseases, including rheumatism, bronchial spasm, skin diseases, severe allergies, asthma, chronic obstructive lung disease, croup and many others. For patients undergoing cancer treatment, Decadron tablets are used for reducing side effects such as nausea or vomiting.

Indications:

• inflammation,
• allergic symptoms,
• immune response,
• side effects of anti-tumour treatment of patients with cancer.

How to take

Relieving symptoms of rheumatism etc.: in general, adults should take 1-16 tablets (0.5 to 8 mg of the active principle) a day, dividing into 1-4 times. Your doctor may adjust the dosage according to your disease, age and symptoms.

Nausea and vomiting accompanied with administrating antineoplastic drug: In general, adults should take 8-40 tablets a day, in 1 to 2 divided doses. Your doctor may adjust the dosage according to your disease, age and symptoms. A daily maximum dosage of 40 tablets (20 mg) should not be exceeded. 

Systemic AL amyloidosis: In combination with other medicine, in general, adults should take 80 tablets a day on Days 1, 8, 15 and 22 of the 28 day treatment cycle. This treatment cycle may be repeated up to 6 times.

Contraindications: do not use for the following patients:

• patients with infection, systemic mycosis, peptic ulcer, psychosis, tuberculosis, herpes simplex keratitis, posterior capsular cataract, glaucoma, hypertension, thrombosis or uncontrolled diabetes,
• patients with swelling tendency,
• patients with a recent history of surgery to internal organs,
• patients with a history of acute myocardial infarction,
• pregnant or breastfeeding women. 

Important information

Pay close attention not to be affected with varicella or measles while taking these tablets, it may lead to a serious state.

If an allergic reaction occurs, patient needs to stop using the medicine and consult with their doctor. If patient is taking any other medication or treatment, they should consult with their doctor in advance.
