What are Cetirizine hydrochloride tablets 5 mg (Zyrtec)?
Cetirizne hydrochloride is a well-known antihistamine of second generation. It works as a highly selective antagonist of the histamine H1 receptor. These tablets start to act within thirty minutes and their action last for about 24 hours. As cetirizine doesn't cross blood-brain barrier, it cause less sleepiness when compare to other antihistamines. Cetirizine hydrochloride tablets are effective for the treatment of allergic rhinitis, hives, eczema, dermatitis, prurigo and cutaneous pruritus.

Indications:
- Allergic rhinitis,
- Urticaria,
- Eczema or dermatitis,
- Prurigo and skin itching.
How to take
Adults: take 2 tablets (10 mg of the active ingredient) at a time, once a day before bedtime. Your doctor may adjust the dosage according to your age or symptoms. The maximum daily dosage of 4 tablets (20 mg) a day should never be exceeded.
Children age 7-14 years: take 1 tablet (5 mg) at a time, twice a day, after breakfast and before bedtime. The doctor in charge may adjust the dosage according to age or symptoms.
Contraindications: do not use for pregnant or breastfeeding women. Do not use for patients with liver disorder.
Important information
Avoid drinking alcohol while taking this medicine.
These tablets may cause drowsiness. You shouldn't drive a car, work at heights or operate dangerous machinery while taking this medicine.
If an allergic reaction occurs, patient needs to stop using the medicine and consult with their doctor. If patient is taking any other medication or treatment, they should consult with their doctor in advance.
