What are Azelnidipine tablets (Azusa, Azovas) 8 mg for hypertension?
Azelnidipine is a dihydropyridine blocker of L- and T-calcium channels. It works by blocking calcium influx into cells and therefore dilating constricted blood vessels to lower blood pressure. Azelnidipine tablets are effective for the treatment of hypertension. They have many advantages over other medications for hypertension:
- Gradual onset of action gives a slight increase in heart rate, so this medication does not provoke tachycardia;
- Long-lasting hypotensive effect;
- Azelnidipine tablets are usually well-tolerated and have very few side effects,
- Studies have proven that azelnidipine provides protective effects to the cardiovascular system.

How to take
Adults should start with 1 tablet (8 mg) or less at a time, once daily after breakfast, as a starting dose. Then, if the effect is insufficient, the dosage may be increased to 2 tablets (16 mg active ingredient) at a time, once daily after breakfast. The treating physician may adjust the dosage depending on the patient's symptoms. However, do not exceed the maximum daily dose of 2 tablets (16 mg).
Contraindications: do not use in pregnant, possibly pregnant or breastfeeding women.
Important information
Avoid drinking grapefruit juice while taking this medicine.
Because lower blood pressure can cause dizziness, be careful when driving, working at heights, or being engaged in other potentially dangerous activities.
If an allergic reaction occurs, patients needs to stop using the medicine and consult with their doctor. If patient is taking any other medication or treatment, they should consult with their doctor in advance.
