What are Acarbose tablets 50 mg for hyperglycemia (Glucobay, Precose, Prandase)?
Acarbose tablets are effective for preventing the hyperglycemia after meal in patients with diabetes mellitus type 2 and prediabetes. This medicine is a starch blocker working by inhibiting enzymes in small intestinal mucosa, pancreatic juice and saliva. Following effects can be expected:
- suppressing a rapid rise in blood glucose after meals,
- reducing the rate of digestion of complex carbohydrates,
- decreasing blood glucose levels,
- decreasing glycated hemoglobin level.

Indications: postprandial hyperglycemia in patients with diabetes mellitus type 2 and prediabetes
How to take
Adults: start from taking 1 tablet (50 mg of active principle) at once and then gradually increase the dosage, monitoring the symptoms. Standard dosage is 2 tablets (100 mg of principle) 3 times a day before meal. The dosage can be adjusted by your doctor according to age and symptoms.
Contraindications: do not use for pregnant and breastfeeding women. Do not use for patients with ketosis, diabetic coma or precoma, infection, before or after surgery condition, trauma, history of laparotomy or intestinal obstruction, liver or renal disorder, gastrointestinal disorder.
Important information
In case of symptoms of hypoglycemia (cold and sweating, arms and legs trembling etc.), you need to take 5-10 g of glucose.
Avoid driving a car or operating dangerous mechanisms while taking this medicine, as the decreased blood sugar may cause dizziness.
